So JonT and I headed out to BMW of Manhattan (this time we went on the right day, which really helps...) Jon was there when I got there and I got the last car, a 540 Sport Wagon. I whined and JonT forked over the keys to the 325XI. Next thing I know, there's Vin and Justine all signed up and been there driving cars for the cure since 3pm... but uh... no car for them. Of the 17 cars for the cure, 12 were running so there were more drivers than cars... and of course those GREAT NY BMW DRIVERS had turned out in force woohoo, yay NY!

So... we played musical cars a couple times and ended up with JonT driving me in the 325XI and Vin and Justine in the 750. There are pics of this moment... gotta wait for Vin to post them, he and Justine were the only ones who brought a camera- doh!

Here are the pics of Vin and Justine in the 750...

and Me and Jon T in the 325xi

Lining up on West 59th St- not easy in easy out!

We're just pulling out and there is this horrible noise... and it's coming from the 750... the look on Vin's face was priceless. Later he made the international symbol for "DEAD" drawing his finger across his neck. That's OK, Justine wante to go shopping anyway... I shouted out the window as we sped off "That's OK Vin, hold on to the TalkAbout and uh... enjoy shopping!"

La la la off we went at around 7pm into rush hour traffic.

La la la found the caravan.
We all got redireccted by the 1st ave block party at 70 something St...
La la la lost the caravan.

La la la into Harlem.

La la la it's Puerto Rican Day tomorrow and there are flags everywhere, so we bought one for the 325XI rear window...
La la la we're out of gas.... the fuel light came on...

La la la we're in the Bronx and we have no gas

La la la call the follow up truck, he's lost, sounds like he's from Alabama and he is at 105th St in Harlem on 3rd Ave. "Hey, you better get back over to 1st Ave quick before you run out of Manhattan and go over the wrong bridge. And by the way, we have no gas..." Call the staff in Westchester... "By the way, how far can we go on the reserve tank in one of these things? Oh? On board computer says we have 31 miles. That's nice. And btw the follow up van is lost in Harlem, have a nice day y'all."

La la la we ain't stopping for gas in the Bronx. Uh uh.

Crossed into white plains, found a gas station, filled the tank with Premium- $31!!!!! Gas was 2.09 a gallon. Oh well we're the last car in the convoy anyway... arrive at the dealership in Westchester and guess what... we're NOT the last ones to arrive! How did that happen? OK, that's nice. we even gave the car it's first "upgrade". They liked the flag. And who comes in behind us? Vin in the 750 sport wagon and Justine in a 2.5 Z3! Woohoo! As they were leaving Manhattan BMW 2 of the Drive for the Cure cars FINALLY were returned, the staff grabbed them out of Vin's M Roadster and said- "Drive!"
First words out of Vin's mouth, "I want that car!" Really? You prefer a 750 sport wagon to your hot M Roadster? Apparently that car drives like a dream. And get this... even Vin and Justine were not the last cars! Somehow, I don't know how, cause we certainly weren't doing any hot dogging or even trying to go fast, like we're talking 5 mph in end of rush hour traffic... Woohoo wtg Z3ers!
We all piled into the 330 convertible drive to the pee at the nearby Burger King. ( Do NOT ask!) What a frikin awesome convertible top. We played with that a while, oohing and aahing like we were on Space Mountain. That top mechanism rocked. I tried to get into the trunk to see how much room the top motor takes up... but it was locked and we couldn't figure out how to open it. Drat. I bet they have a full size spare tire too.
Another car on empty. This time we were done with going to gas stations... back to the dealership for the shuttle on the ride home.
Thanks for the t shirts and the fun times Susan J Komen team, it was a blast and I learned a lot about the cars and felt good about helping out.
If you have a chance to help the Susan J Komen Drive for the Cure team move cars, give it a whirl!

:)

Mucho mucho thanks to Vin and Justine for the pics!
