Yellow connector

Here is a 7X pic of the yellow line out connector. Does Audi make connectors? Anyone have an Audi parts CD? Just curious if the part number 4A0 972 643 is on it and if it shows a part number for the pins.

Just checked my TP out. You are correct in that it is fully adjustable. Apparently my TP came from the factory set to full front, full right and I assumed that it wasn't adjustable. Thanks for the tip.

Before calling Burl, I figured that I would stop at the VW dealer and see if they could help. Wasn't expecting much, but I walked out with two gold pins with wire attached on the house. Note the AMP on the pin.

Becker 7860 changer arrived

Received the Becker changer today. I also orderd an extra magazine.
Unlike the one that came with the changer, this one has all of the Sony writing on it. It's a Sony XA-T7.
Did a search on this to see if it was available for less and it is.
Also did a search on what changers it is used on. It's used on Sony changers CDX-T67, 68X, 69 and 70MX. Called up the CDX-T69 one and it looks just like the Becker one that I received.

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/...ems&i=158CDXT69

It's available here for less.

http://www.sounddomain.com/search.pl?search_str=cdx-t69

Looking at the cable that came with it, the CD changer end is the same as the Sony CD changer I pulled out of my ti.
Looks like Becker is using a Sony CD changer. Unless they are requesting something special, it looks like they take the Sony CD changer cable and add their connectors to the radio end.
We now know how to purchase the Becker connectors and pins, so maybe we could do the same.

First, the part number is 4A0 972 643. The 3rd character is a number, not a letter. It can be purchased here: http://www.vwparts.com for $3.14 each. I have a VW/Audi parts CD (up to MY 2000). When I get home I'll try to look this up for you to see if it has any pins.

That looks like part of the adapter I have to tap into the pre-amp out leads from my Jetta's factory radio. Does the rest of your part look like this?

The yellow output connector 4A0 972 643 and cable that comes with the TP has 5 phono plugs on it. Line out: L/R, F/R and subwoofer.
The other two connectors are green 4A0 972 643A and blue 4A0 972 643B. Will order all three from my VW dealer just to do it.
I'm also interested in a connector pin removal tool.
I assume that the unit in your car is a Becker one?
Where can one purchase the VW/Audi ETKA?

Actually, the unit in my car is the VW factory supplied radio, built by either Panasonic or Blaupunkt. The preamp out adapter is a Blaupunkt part that also plugs into several of the Blaupunkt aftermarket offerings. It provides LF, LR, RF and RR line out phono plugs and an amplifier turn-on lead. I'm told the 6th pin position is a ground on my radio, but I haven't had the need to verify that.

I've got both a US and a European ETKA (on different CD databases), found through various internet sources. They are not as easily obtained as the BMW versions. I haven't looked in a few years, but I'll see if I can find a source for you.

I think I have a part number for a pin removal tool as well. Let me see if I can track that down. Failing that, I've been told that you can remove the pins with a very small paper clip and a lot of patience.

Radio pins

I had a Sony head unit and changer in my ti. It had no pin for the alarm opening. The ti has the opening but was not wired for the alarm.
I'm wanted to use the pin for support with the TP. I sold the stock radio with the pin long ago. I didn't think that these pins would be available separately, but I found them on the EPC. Both pins shown in the pic are used on the Z3's and many other models.
The doubled sided stud came with the HK TP. It has a T10 TORX on one end to screw (self tapping) it into the back of the radio opening.

After reading everyone else's problems with CD Changers, I figured I'd just forget it all together and Ebay both my OEM head unit and changer.

So, my question is- what's the best way to hook up the reverse signal? Is it easy to run a wire down to the backup switch on the transmission? Or is it easier to tap into the backup light wiring itself somewhere? I've got a '97 2.8 Z3.

Any help would be appreciated!

The more I look into this changer the more of a joke it becomes. I will be selling mine if anyone is interested.
You really don't have to hook up the reverse line.
The instructions that come with the BMW units have you hook it up in the drivers (LHD) side footwell area.

Some people have purchased the faceplate from the sales number 516-921-8776.
They paid $300 > $350 for it.
If you get the part number from them you can order it from Burl (parts guy) at 888-423-3537 ext. 1209. I tried ordering one from him without the number and without success.
I'll be calling them next week to see. Also want to see if I can trade in the changer for one that remembers where it is.
Becker Part Numbers:
BMW amber controller (part that comes off) 1418.564 $371.60 retail
BMW amber fixed front (on button etc.) 1418.556 $71.60 retail

HK removable piece comes up Traffic Pro in both cars.
BMW removable piece comes up BMW in the coupe and BECKER in the ti.
I assume that the one mentioned above will come up BECKER too.

The 7860 changer I have doesn't remember where it is CD wise and comes up at CD1 with start everytime. I'm told that this unit does remember on some cars. They offer a refurbished CDC3 changer that works well in all cars.

Looks like we may have new software available this Spring.

Becker 7860 Changer

I initially ordered the Becker 7860 changer from Becker which was supposed to be a deal. Changer with extra magazine was $424.50 delivered.
Since then, I found out that this same changer is available from www.swstereo.com for $340 delivered.
This changer doesn't work in my Z3. I know of two other Z3's and one M3 that it doesn't either. It doesn't remember where it is. So every time you start the car it goes back to CD1 track 1.
With some talk, Becker agreed to replace my 7860 with a refurbished CDC3 changer that does remember where it was. This changer uses the same cable so you don't have to tear your car apart again. Today, I received the changer with magazine. Extra magazine is $61.
No manual, hardware etc. It works. This changer from Becker with cable and magazine is $300.77 plus shipping. Have no idea what else it comes with. This same unit is also available from swstereo for $315 delivered.
So basically, I'm out over $100 to end up with a refurbished changer that works. Their excuse is that the 7860 works in some cars. It doesn't work in any BMW's that I know of.
