Bill & Thomas Koff
Bill Koff
'98 Silver/blue/blue M Roadster driven from Wilmington, NC by
Bill Koff (age 44), with Thomas Koff (age 10) as navigator.

Equipment: JVC Digifine 12-disc CD changer, V1 radar locator,
windscreen.
Glovebox apparel: BMW M driving gloves, Grand Prix Du Canada driving
cap.

Equipment added after seeing how great it looked at the Homecoming:
Sports Fairing.

Most Notorious Homecoming Escapade: Thomas's tale of our journey,
shared with everyone at the Saturday night awards ceremony: "My name's
Thomas Koff, and I came here from Wilmington, NC with my dad, he's over
there. Actually I slept most of the way. Then I got hungry and...I ate
my dad's arm. Yeah, that's right....No, really I just came up here
because I wanted to win something." Followed by a thunderous standing
ovation, and acclaimed as best travel story. (He won a remote control
Z3, and it's still running.)

The car before the Homecoming: Purchased in June '98. I had totalled
my 11-month-old '97 2.8 Z3 in April '98, and walked away with nary a
scratch. Went back into the dealership to find the M Roadsters were
just coming out. How convenient. Another case of life imitating
art--as the lyric of Dave Edmonds' Crawling From The Wreckage goes:
                Crawling from the wreckage
                Crawling from the wreckage
                Into a brand new car....

The car since the Homecoming: 10,000 miles in 9 months. No problems,
except the silly "check engine" light coming on a few times, and waiting
for the M Mobility Kit and voltmeter to arrive (both now installed).
Participated in the Eurocar 98 show at the BMW plant. Greatest exploit
so far was driving it all day at Road Atlanta at their Track Day in
November--what a thrill, I can't recommend this highly enough; the car
and I both loved it. Plan on attending the next Track Day there in
March '99, a few more autocrosses, and, of course, Homecoming '99.
