Day Three- 1/4 Lap of America Taleisin Many MANY thanks to JonT for his skills making this 3D panoramic. If you are having trouble finding the plugin for Netscape, it's available at the Following URL: http://www.mgisoft.com/web/viewers/plugin.asp ![]() Never asked about the room where the murders took place. So then we hit the store. There was so much I wanted, none of it would fit in the car, so I was making a long list. mine mine Done with shopping, we asked where there would be a nice place to lunch. The cashier with the Welsh accent said, "We have a restaurant here." Yes, I know that, I had breakfast there. I would like to have lunch somewhere else. "Well.. there are restaurants in town, but I don't think they would be open now." Let me get this straight, it's 1230pm on a Wednesday afternoon, and all around the world people are sitting down to have lunch, and you have restaurants, but they wouldn't be open now? And Frank Lloyd Wright was 6 feet tall. And Fallingwater is already restored. And Frank Lloyd Wright died "on the way to Wisconsin". At that point I lost it. These people have just been eating too much cheese. Someone send these people some bran. babies at Taliesin Another thing I had learned about people in the Midwest is that they have a different concept of time. It has something to do with the denial they are in about their roadways. We stopped for eggs at a diner (they were pretty amused by my requiring fans to blow the cigarette smoke out of the dining area) and JTP and Dave were all set to drive North and West- when we were sleeping in Chicago South and East, and had a 6pm check in time at the Cheney House. It's 2 pm in Madison Wisconsin, it's 3 hours in "midwest time" which is more like 5 hours to the rest of us. You do the math. Dave put over 50,000 miles on his car in less than a year, he's like Mikey the Life cereal boy, he'll drive anywhere. You guys do what you like, I am heading to Chicago- now. But I ain't going on that damn I-294. They ain't gettin 40 cents from me today, brother. I too, have had too much cheese and I am in no mood to fool with that crap again. This turned out to be a very good decision. As much as I am sorry we missed Richmond Place, I wouldn't have missed 78 for the world. I liked it better than Taliesin. We even met really nice people in a gas station. One had a brother in Allentown, PA. I will be stopping in with a handwritten note from his brother as soon as I can. There was hardly another car, but hey, as you can see it was just gorgeous and the road was wonderful and the people were nice. Highly recommended. We were only half and hour from the Mississippi at one point. I have a crush on the Mississippi. It was important to get to Cheney House at a reasonable hour so we just went straight down 78 to 65 and into Oak Park. We had problems finding the Cheney House. David was leading. That was the end of David leading. Don't ask. We closed down Robinson's Ribs, got directions, found the Cheney House and after gasping at it's beauty in the dark, fell into a deep deep sleep around 1am. |
