715pm- I'm on the phone with Dean, we're keeping each other company- bitching- what's that noise? My neighbor's air conditioner! The light is on! OMG it's over!

It takes a while to get used to having power again, I was still afraid to use the elevators, I didn't want to be caught in a Staten Island relapse.
Looks like some places like the W hotel still hadn't quite gotten it together, the water in my apartment came with brown and little bits of dirt, it was nice to have TV and I ate some of the food, figuring it was on it's last legs- a little risky maybe but apparently I got away with it.
Saturday morning life was not exactly normal. Dean came over to join me in a forage for food (and to restock batteries and water... just in case). It was hard to get in the elevator.
These poor folks still couldn't get home.

I thought of stopping to ask if they needed anything but they looked like they wanted to be left alone.
Parts of the park smell like human excrement. Can not blame them, wonder how they worked that out last night.

I called the restaurant where Topher works, he answered! They are bailing out and hoping to be serving dinner.
As you can see, the supermarket had to throw out all their meats...

...and all their dairy.
They were restocking- signs on the eggs and milk said it was fresh that day.
I ran to the Greenmarket in time to get some of the last fish- all that was left was lobster, and some of the last cooked poultry.
We ate at the Blue Water Grill (If you have been watching Queer Eye, that's the place they just went for the lobster dinner). Ate from their downsized menu and drank Bloody Marys. A very fine meal. We were both surprised that we were as upset as we were. We both thought we'd do better in an emergency.
It's good to be home, and it's good to have power.
Ok the kitten is ticked off, I have to stop writing.
I love New York City. I hope everyone is home now and has power. I haven't seen anything about how other cities and towns handled the blackout. Something to think about. As the politicians point fingers of blame and each uses the crisis to push their agenda, think about the power, the electricity, the waste and the use.
